I forgot in my taxes post to include this one ...
The Gatineau Tax de Bienvenue
Loosely translated that means "Gatineau Welcome Tax" and roughly it is about 1% of whatever you paid for your house. So about $2500 for your new $250,000 house.
And what services does that tax pay for? Well, nothing really. You just pay it for the privilege of moving in ...
Seriously ...

you should be aware that this is a provincial tax and it is not limited to Gatineau or Quebec for that matter...it is called the "tax de bienvenue" because of the minister that first implemented it was Mr.Jean Bienvenue...however that being said...Ontario has the same tax except that it is called a land transfer tax....which seems to not cause as much uproar...
Yep ridiculous and the word is evil. Legalized crime. They slip it in between generation gaps and overwhelm old folks and the younger families.
It is time to start thinking seriously on just saying no. Prove why and where I have to pay and where it goes.
Anyhow, it is always good to cheat them back when we can, do it as often as you like. I do. For the fact that they make things like that, it is more than deserved.
POWER to the people.
